September Festivals

As can be read below, Duniya was present at several September festivals. A lot of delicious honey was sold in support of our activities in Vietnam, we sold birth(day) decoration (textile flags) made by our Duniya Decoration team in India and met many people interested in our work.

We zijn in de maand september aanwezig op 3 festivals. Hou deze pagina in de gaten voor last-minute veranderingen!

13 SEPTEMBER: HONINGOOGSTFEEST

De zomershoning is er weer en hij zal binnenkort geoogst worden. Je kunt verschillende soorten zuivere  honing proeven en kopen. Ze komen niet alleen van de bloemen uit Rijswijk, maar ook uit Delfgauw, Friesland en van de bijzondere accacia bomen uit Hongarije. De opbrengst zal dit jaar via Duniya worden geschonken aan de projecten in Vietnam. Mirjam Letsch neemt  ook de producten van Goodgoods >>> mee: kleurrijke tassen (nieuw!), kussens en meer.

Behalve de informatie over het bijenhouden en rondleiding in de bijenstand, kunt u vrij wandelen in de mooie tuin en in het park. Er zijn muziekoptredens en verhalenvertellingen, een workshop springrolls waarbij u ter plekke de heerlijke Vietnamese groente loempia’s kunt maken en proeven. Er is een speelplaats voor de kinderen naast een plas. Bij mooi weer kunnen de bezoekers eventueel picknicken. 
Kortom, voldoende activiteiten voor een zondagmiddag.

U bent van harte welkom op zondag 13 september, van 14.00 tot 17.00 uur in de Blokhut in de Natuurtuin in het Wilhelminapark te Rijswijk (Bestemming mbv het navigatiesysteem: Hazepad , Rijswijk ZH (NL, 2287). Openbaar vervoer: Met bus 23 HTM naar halte Klaroenstraat Rijswijk, dan ca. 3 km lopen: Klaroenstraat uitlopen in zuidelijke richting. Dan even linksaf, spoor blijven volgen, viaduct oversteken. De weg heet nu Bosgang. Eerste weg rechts heet Hazepad. Die ongeveer een kilometer volgen. Links zie je de blokhut van  de natuurtuin.

12 SEPTEMBER: FESTIVAL 2015

Dit is géén Duniya festival en staat ook niet in het teken van de activiteiten van Duniya. Het 2015 FESTIVAL maakt zich sterk voor het realiseren van de 8 Millenniumdoelen van de Verenigde Naties. Dit jaar staat het 2015 FESTIVAL in het teken van VOEDSEL: van ver en dichtbij. Wereldwijd bestaat er een voedselprobleem. De een heeft te veel de ander te weinig, armoede en honger. Maar voedsel is meer: 'eerlijke handel' in voedsel is minstens zo belangrijk. Maar wat dacht je van voedsel op een duurzame manier produceren, dichtbij in de eigen leefomgeving. Op het festivalterrein zullen diverse facetten omtrent het thema voedsel zichtbaar zijn.

Toch is er een beetje Duniya aanwezig, en wel in de vorm van een foto-expositie.

Fotograaf Mirjam Letsch >>> zal op het festival een speciaal samengestelde selectie foto's exposeren met als thema ‘ Eten van de Straat: de dagelijkse eetcultuur in Azië'. Het festival heeft daarmee een primeur: de beelden zullen later deel uitmaken van een publicatie en zijn nog niet eerder vertoond. Een aantal van de beelden zijn gemaakt op de locaties waar Duniya werkt: India en Vietnam.

12 SEPTEMBER: HOOFDDORPPLEIN (AMSTERDAM), IN 1 DAG DE WERELD ROND (WERELDMARKT)

Net als de afgelopen jaren heeft Duniya een (informatie) kraam op deze markt, waar we ook onze kaarten en populaire vlaggetjes van textiel zullen verkopen. Bestuurslid Debby heeft speciaal voor deze gelegenheid een nieuwe en kleurrijke lading meegenomen. Er zullen ook kettingen van het merk D-E-Sign verkocht worden, prachtige sieraden van een ontwerpster die ons werk ondersteunt.

August 2009, Vietnam: eye operation for 49 children in Ha Giang province

Between July 27 and July 30, 49 children from Ha Giang province had an eye-operation. A co-production between the sponsors Duniya Foundation and the Hanoi International Women's Club (HIWC) and the organizing NGO, our counterpart C2 in Hanoi. In March and May 2009, 78 children were invited for their operation, following extensive screening. Of these children, 54 showed up and 24 little patients came without having been screened and without invitation (rumours spread fast in the mountains!). A total of 75 children were seen by the doctors on the 27th of July, of which 52 were finally invited for an operation. However, on the day of their operation, 3 children were rejected due to bad general health (their time will come). All children and their parents received thorough instructions regading after care and they were given money for food and transportation to return to their villages. Thus far, no complications have been reported. The operations concerned cataract, tumors, and squint.

August 2009, India: Duniya Generation a fact!

We are so proud to announce our first 'Duniya Generation': children who for years attended our school (Duniya Education) passed their exam and now will go to a secondary school, starting August 6th. Debby, one of our boardmembers, is in Varanasi and accompanied this first group of nine children on their first day to their new 'big' school: Mahamana Vidjale School (MVS). Their education will be sponsored by Duniya Foundation as well. All of us, the children, their parents, their teachers at Duniya Education and, of course, all of us at Duniya Foundation, feel very proud that this first group steps ahead into the big world of education which - without support - would not have been within their reach. We will miss them in our own school, but we are eager to follow them over the years to come. Will Komal indeed become the 'police officer' she told us she wants to be?

August 2009: Duniya staff has to cool down...

Cool down? Yes! This time of the year, the climate of Varanasi is at times almost unbearable. So this day of in the weekend, Debby and the staff went to the waterfalls, just outside the city, for a well-deserved relaxing day.
